If the truth will set you free, what path do lies set you on?
My answer is that lies do not offer a path. They construct a cage.
Slowly and steadily building on each other until we are a prison constructed by our own choices. To us, our lies protect us. But what began as a suit of armor has now become bolted shut and you are its prisoner.
I learned the opposite of belonging is, fitting in. Our culture produces people who read the room and impersonate a version of themselves that will “fit”. We amputate ourselves. Stars blocks trying to fit in a square hole. We are willing to cut off parts of ourselves and leave them behind so we can “ fit”. The sad thing is, how effective the Imposter self can be. Awarding us with proximity but keeping us from true connection. To belong is the freedom of just being yourself. Being Honest.
For years I let my fear of rejection from others keep me from ever accepting myself. This book is a Prison Break. It is an escape plan for all those who are tired of auditioning to be themselves. Each poem in this book is a shovel of dirt as I dig toward revelation. This book is a folded note that has been slipped under the bars of your cell. Asking you to join in on a jailbreak. It is both an invitation and an invitation.
